Things I’m Loving Now (10/23/12): Bruno Mars, Argo, John Grisham

1. Music – Bruno Mars – In case you don’t recall how you know him, Bruno Mars is the mastermind behind and vocals for two massive hits not that long ago, “Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are” (those songs were from his previous album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans).  For the release of his newest album, Bruno gets back on board with what he knows best, using that pristine voice of his and a fantastic back-up band to get the audience moving!  If you haven’t yet listened to his latest single, “Locked Out of Heaven”, download now!

2. Movies – Argo – I’m sure that most of you are aware of this movie.  However, you may not know the whole story.  This film, directed by and starring Ben Affleck, tells the remarkable TRUE STORY of how the CIA conspired with Hollywood to free six Americans trapped inside the Canadian Embassy in Iran during the late 1970’s.  Every review that I have read about this film is nothing short of glowing, and it seems as though fans like it even more.  There is considerable talk now of multiple Oscar nominations for acting, directing and best picture.  If you love a great story with espionage, thrills and backroom dealings, go see Argo immediately.  You will not be disappointed.

3. Books – John Grisham – Anyone who enjoys either books or movies likely knows about John Grisham.  His entire career has been built around writing works that adults worldwide can’t stop reading.  Many of his books, such as The Firm and The Pelican Brief, have been made into highly successful films starring the likes of Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts.  He made my list this week as a result of his latest written work, The Racketeer.  If you know me, then you know that I’m a diehard Grisham fan.  I have, quite literally, read each and every one of his 30+ works and he never fails to draw me in with his clever writing and great twists.  There is also one other thing that made me want to include him on this week’s list.  With his new book, Grisham has introduced the world to his first African-American lead character.  Being the longtime liberal that I am, it definitely pleased me.  All the youth of America need strong characters in books, movies and music to which they can aspire and be inspired from.  Bravo to John for doing his part!
