Things I’m Loving Now (11/16/12): Adele, American Horror Story, Abraham Lincoln

1. Music – Adele – Alright, now…all of you should know the name Adele.  She is the British songstress whose recent hits include songs such as “Rolling in the Deep” and  “Rumor Has It”.  Now, though, she has ventured into new territory and is the sultry voice behind the newest smash “Skyfall”…from the just-released James Bond flick of the same name.  If you love (or even just like) what Adele has released in the past, this new single will not disappoint.  For me, this song is somewhat dark and a bit disturbed.  Hearing that thunderous voice and her smooth delivery was all it took to hook me.  If you are one of the few who hasn’t done so already, download now!  TheLeftyWolfe Rating: 8.5 out of 10.

2. TV – American Horror Story: Asylum – Holy Hell, Batman!  This is one damn good show!  OK, I’ll stop with the word play and get back to the review…Anyways, this is one frightening take on life in a dark, dank Catholic home for the mentally unstable in Boston during the late 1960’s.  If you aren’t familiar with this show, don’t worry just yet.  You need not have seen the first season last year because this year has all-new plots and characters (each season features new locations and storylines).  Now, then, there are two very good reasons why you should set your TiVo to record: the actors and the gore.  With a cast that includes a deliciously devious Jessica Lange (playing the head nun with a past), a knockout performance by Chloe Sevigny (if you haven’t seen her act before, look her up now…without a doubt she is one of the more gifted actors of her generation), and the twisted mind of James Cromwell’s VERY sadistic character (in-house doctor), American Horror Story: Asylum will either have you throwing up in the toilet or immediately watching the next episode.  Either way, you end up hungry for more!  TheLeftyWolfe Rating: 7.5 out of 10.

3. Movies – Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – As my regular readers know, I have always been a huge sci-fi/horror fan.  This movie, which is already out on video, is based on the book of the same name.  Although I didn’t read the novel, the movie was freakin’ fantastic!  Yes, the plot is a bit of a stretch at certain points in the movie, but if you want to just have a good time watching a fun, intriguing twist on the life of our 16th president, this is a great pick.  I realize that vampire and zombie movies seem to be EVERYWHERE right now, but this is actually one of the better entries into the genre.  The special effects are great, the acting is fine and the filmmakers present you with an exciting twist on your normal historical biography/horror fest.  TheLeftyWolfe Rating: 7.5 out of 10.

–>–>P.S…If you’re looking for a great film based on the actual true-life story of Abraham Lincoln, Steven Spielberg is about to release his next epic, Lincoln (starring the incomparable Daniel Day-Lewis in the title role and Sally Field as his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln).  This movie is already garnering major Academy Awards buzz and will be a huge hit at the box office, guaranteed.
